Family Visas – in detail

Hey there! Planning to tie the knot with your partner in Australia? The Prospective Marriage (Subclass 300) visa lets you come to Australia, marry your partner, and then apply for a Partner visa once you’re hitched.

What can you do with this visa?

With the Subclass 300 visa, you’ll be able to:

  1. Live, work, and study in Australia for 9 to 15 months from the visa grant date.
  2. Travel to and from Australia as often as you like while the visa is valid.

Settling in Australia
Once you’re married and want to stay in Australia for good, you’ll need to apply for the Partner visa (Subclass 820 and 801) before your Prospective Marriage visa runs out. Easy as!

How long can you stay?
This visa is temporary, letting you stay in Australia for 9 to 15 months from the date your visa is granted.

Can you bring family members?
Yes! You can include family members in your application:

  1. When you first lodge your application, or
  2. Add a dependent child after lodging but before a decision is made.

Family members applying with you need to meet the health and character requirements and be outside Australia at the time of application. Even family members not coming with you might need to pass these requirements too.

Costs
The visa fee for the main applicant is AUD 9,095. Additional fees apply for family members who are included in your application. Don’t forget you might also need to budget for health checks, police certificates, and biometrics.

How to apply?
You and your family members must be outside of Australia when you apply. Simple as that.

What are your obligations?
You and any family members must meet all visa conditions and follow Australian laws. If you’re granted the visa while outside Australia, you need to make your first entry by the date specified in your grant letter.

Marriage requirements
Once in Australia, you need to marry your prospective spouse before your visa expires. You can get married anywhere, but your marriage must be valid under Australian law.

Health insurance
We highly recommend getting health insurance to cover any unexpected medical treatment while you’re here. Australia has some great healthcare, but if you’re not covered, you could end up footing the bill yourself. Better safe than sorry!

Travel flexibility
With this visa, you can travel in and out of Australia as much as you like until it expires. Just make sure you enter Australia by the first arrival date specified in your grant letter.

Visa label
No need to worry about a visa label in your passport! Your visa will be digitally linked to your passport. Too easy!

G’day! Wondering how your little one can make Australia their home? With the Subclass 101 Child Visa, a child living outside of Australia can come and live with their parents right here in the land down under. Here’s the lowdown on what this visa is all about:

What’s the go with this visa?

This visa lets your child:

  1. Stay in Australia permanently
  2. Work and study in Australia
  3. Access Medicare, Australia’s public healthcare system
  4. Sponsor other family members to join them
  5. Apply for Aussie citizenship (if eligible)
  6. Travel to and from Australia as much as they like for 5 years

After the first 5 years, they’ll need to apply for a Resident Return Visa (RRV) to keep travelling in and out, or better yet, they can apply for citizenship and not worry about a visa at all.

How long can they stay?

This visa is permanent, which means your child can stay in Australia indefinitely.

Can other kids be included?

If there are siblings, you’ll need to put in separate applications for each of them. Dependent kids can also be added to the application before it’s decided, but everyone will need to meet the health requirements.

How much does it cost?

The visa will set you back AUD 3,140 for the main applicant. If there are dependent children, there’ll be additional charges. Also, keep in mind there could be extra costs for health checks, police certificates, and biometrics.

Applying from overseas?

Your child must be outside Australia when you apply.

How long will it take?

Processing times can vary, but if everything’s filled in right and all the docs are in, it should move along smoothly. Just make sure the visa charge is paid, or we can’t process the application.

Obligations

Once the visa is granted, your child needs to enter Australia by the date in the grant letter (usually within 12 months). And of course, they’ll need to follow all the visa conditions and Aussie laws.

No visa label

Everything’s digital these days! The visa will be linked to your child’s passport, so there’s no need for a physical visa label.

If you need any help with the visa process, get in touch with Success To Migration – your trusted registered migration agent in Melbourne! We’re here to make things easy for you.

G’day! If you’re looking to make Australia your home and you’ve got a child here who’s an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen, the Parent Visa (Subclass 103) might be just the ticket. Success To Migration is here to guide you every step of the way.

What This Visa Lets You Do

With the Subclass 103 Parent Visa, you’ll be able to:

  1. Stay in Australia permanently
  2. Work and study without any worries
  3. Enroll in Medicare (Australia’s public healthcare system)
  4. Sponsor your family members to come over
  5. Apply for Aussie citizenship, if you’re eligible
  6. Travel freely in and out of Australia for the first 5 years (after that, you’ll need to look into a Resident Return Visa or even citizenship!)

How Long Can You Stay?

This visa lets you live here for good—so no packing up and leaving after a couple of years. For citizenship purposes, your permanent residency kicks in from the day your visa gets approved.

Can You Include Your Family?

Absolutely! You can include your family members in your application. They’ll need to meet the usual health and character requirements, and even if some of them aren’t moving with you, you’ll still need to provide their details in your application.

If you’re applying as a retiree, you can include your partner, but unfortunately, your kids can’t be added in.

What’s the Cost?

This visa starts from AUD5,125.00, and yes, there’s a separate fee for each family member you include. The payment is made in two parts—one when you apply, and the second when requested by the authorities. Other costs like health checks, police certificates, and biometrics might also come into play.

Where Can You Apply From?

You can be in or outside Australia (just not in immigration clearance) when you apply. Your family members will need to be in the same location (either all in Australia or all outside Australia) when you apply, too. If you’re a retiree, you’ll need to be in Australia to lodge your application.

Processing Times

Now, here’s the deal: Parent visas are in high demand, and the wait can be long. If you’re after quicker processing, you might want to consider the Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143) or the two-step Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 173). They come with a heftier price tag but can be faster.

Thinking of Another Visa?

If you’re still considering your options, you can also look at:

  1. Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143) – Permanent visa with faster processing
  2. Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 870) – Temporary visa allowing parents to visit for up to 5 years at a time
